On November 19, 2023, a Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Asian Concrete Federation (ACF) was held at the Hong Kong Concrete Institute (HKCI) in a hybrid format. The meeting was attended by Vice President of ACF V.R.Falikman, member of the Board of Presidents of the IAE and the Presidium of the RAE.
In connection with the rapid development of the Asia-Pacific region and the increase in the volume of industrial and infrastructure construction during recent decades, the issue of uniting the efforts of specialists in the region for the development of common approaches to the design and standardization of construction activities has become acute. An important role was assigned to cooperation in the most intensively developing areas of application of construction materials, especially in the concrete and reinforced concrete industry. As a result, the basis of the future Asian Concrete Federation (ACF) was created in 2001 in Japan; in 2004, ACF was officially registered. As of today, ACF members are representatives of many of the 48 countries of the continent with a population of more than 4.5 billion people, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia, Australia and other countries. The Russian Federation is represented in ACF by the Structural Concrete Association.
It should be noted that the Hong Kong Concrete Institute (HKCI), as an academic community, has been playing a leading role in promoting the use of concrete and related materials in construction and infrastructure development in Hong Kong, with a focus on sustainable development goals and achieving “carbon neutrality”. It is no coincidence that in the run-up to the ACF Executive Committee Meeting, the Asian Concrete Federation together with HKCI organized a large seminar on “Geopolymer and Other Low Carbon Concrete Materials and Structures” at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, attracting more than 200 participants from around the world.
At the meeting of the Executive Committee were considered important issues related to amendments to the current constituent documents of the Federation and financial activities of the organization; approved new technical committees, the number of which reached 20; agreed on the programs of training events, and discussed publishing activities, including the work of the Editorial Board of the magazine “ACF Journal”. The Executive Committee listened to the reports of the organizers of the next conferences and symposiums in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (2024) and Singapore (2025) and made the necessary decisions.
At the end, a program for the encouragement of active ACF members was adopted, and a Committee for the selection of applicants was formed. Several honored members of the Federation, among them V.R. Falikman, were awarded the honorary title of ACF Fellow.
We congratulate Vyacheslav R. Falikman on the award of the honorary title of ACF Fellow, wish him health and new creative successes!
