Leonid Ivanov was born on April 3rd, 1958 in Baku (Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic). In 1965 – 1973, he studied at high school No. 9 in the city of Astrakhan (1-8 grades); in 1974-1975, at high school No. 3 in the city of Yessentuki in Stavropol Territory (9-10 grades).

In 1975, Leonid Ivanov entered the Rostov Military Engineering Academy (specialty: operation of devices and flight control systems; qualification: electrical engineer) and in 1980, he graduated from it. After the graduation he did his military service in Strategic Missile Forces.

In 1989 – 1992, L. Ivanov studied in Peter the Great Military Academy of Strategic Missile Forces. After the graduation with honors he worked in Central Scientific Research Institute, Ministry of Defense and held the following positions: junior research assistant, research officer, senior research officer, laboratory chief, head of the department. In 1999, he successfully defended his Ph.D dissertation. Leonid Ivanov made numerous reports at scientific, applied and technical conferences and workshops. His key findings are published in the following collections of works: Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology “Science, Equipment, Production”, Central Design Bureau of Heavy Engineering “55 years in a Space-Rocket Industry”, scientific and technical works of Peter the Great Military Academy. In 2001, he was assigned the academic title “Senior research associate” (specialty – “system analysis, modeling of different function systems, computer technologies in a national economy”). L. Ivanov is a colonel reserved officer, veteran of the military service.

After the release from the Armed forces in the year of 2000, L. Ivanov underwent professional retraining according to the Russian and British program in Shchyolkovo training center (Moscow region) with a specialization in small and medium entrepreneurship management. He defended qualification paper with “A” grade. His work generated great interest by the fact that it contained specific, generalized and integrated efficiency factors of advertizing. What is more, specific examples showed how to determine these factors.

Working in editorial departments of “KOMPOZIT” and “PANORAMA” publishing houses as a team manager, deputy chief editor for external affairs, deputy chief editor – responsible for the release of the following journals “Construction Materials, Equipment, XXI Century Technologies”, “Concrete Technologies”, “Roofing and Insulating Materials” and “Dry Mix Mortars”, later – the editor-in-chief of the journal “Construction: new technologies –  new equipment”, the editor-in-chief of Stroyizdat publishing house (journals on construction subject: “Building Superintendant”, “Project and Survey Works in Construction”, “Legal Consultant in Construction”, “Job Safety and Accidents Prevention in Construction”, “Labor Rating and Compensation in Construction”, “Estimated Contract Work in Construction”, etc.), editor-in-chief of PANORAMA publishing house, L. Ivanov put an increased focus on papers and articles on new technologies, high-efficiency equipment, modern materials and technologies. He developed the technology of data reporting on the latest developments in construction industry, at international, Moscow and regional exhibitions, conferences and seminars. Leonid Ivanov is the author more than 100 articles and publications. These articles enjoy popularity with readers and thereby promote next-generation products at the internal and external markets. For his contribution to the development of literature L. Ivanov was awarded the anniversary medal “Sergey Yesenin” issued to the 120th anniversary since the birth of the outstanding poet.

Being the Head of publishing houses L. Ivanov made a lot of effort and devoted his energy for on-time and high-quality edition of journals. For instance, in PANORAMA publishing house (16 publishing houses: “Stroyizdat”, “Promizdat”, “Medizdat”, “Selkhozizdat”, etc.) he was responsible for the edition of more than 200 research and practice, business journals. All of them were issued at a high level and within the established time limit. Experts’ responses on his work and received awards (diplomas, letters of recognition, certificates of acknowledgement, etc.) testify to this fact.

In 2009, with Ivanov’s direct involvement and with the assistance of the Russian and International Academies there was created an electronic publication “NANOTECHNOLOGIES IN CONSTRUCTION: Scientific Internet Journal” The primary goal of this publication is information management of the development and introduction of high technologies (especially nanoproducts) in the construction field, housing and public services, and related branches (production sector, power engineering, etc.). The journal is regularly issued and is making progress. Besides, it is recognized not only among Russian specialists, but also among foreign ones. In 2010, the publication was included in the list of the Russian cited scientific journals of the Ministry of Education and Science. The electronic edition «Nanotechnologies in  Construction: A Scientific Internet-Journal» has been included: Web of Science (USA); CA(pt), former title – Chemical Abstracts (USA); DOAJ (Sweden); EBSCO Publishing (USA); EZB (Germany); CrossRef (USA); ISSN 2075-8545 (France); ProQuest (USA); Readera (Russia); OAJI (USA); ResearchBib (Japan); ResearchGate (USA); eLIBRARY.RU (Russia); Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory (USA) et al. and other. The publication of the findings by the leading scientists and specialists in the field of nanotechnologies makes it possible to draw attention to their achievements internationally, to increase bibliometric indexes of scientists from various countries as well as to enhance prestige of science in general.

L. Ivanov is a member of the Union of Moscow Journalists, member of the Russian Journalists Union and International Federation of Journalists. For his contribution to the enhancement of the journals which were awarded an honorable distinction – “Gold reserve of the press”, he was awarded Personal Certificate (2006) and Diplomas (2007 and 2008), Certificate of the Honorary Member of the All-Russian Public Organization of High-Quality Mass Media “Russian Union of the Press” (2008). In 2009, Leonid Ivanov was awarded the Medal of the Russian Journalists Union “For merits to professional community”, in 2011, he was awarded National Prize “Russian Construction Olympus” in the nomination “The Head of the Year” – For a significant contribution to the development of mass media.

Thanks to Leonid Ivanov’s efforts there has been established connection between editorial departments for which he had worked, with subdivisions and regional departments of the Russian Academy of Engineering, and also with the departments of the International Academy of Engineering: national engineering academies, departments and representations of IAE. Great many members of academies learned about these journals and were able to publish the results of their scientific and technical achievements. Leonid Ivanov is the academician of RAE and IAE. He took an active part in preparation of I and II Congresses for Russian Engineers, the All-Russian Conference “Reserves for Economic Growth Speedup and Doubling of Russian GDP”, devoted to the 15th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Engineering. For his active participation in the preparation of the II Congress for Russian Engineers L. Ivanov was awarded Diploma of the Supreme Engineering Council of Russia.

Being the Vice-President for informatics and organizational development of the Russian and International Academies of Engineering, Leonid Ivanov made a significant contribution to the creation and enhancement of Internet resources for the Russian and International Academies of Engineering as well as to the preparation of the directory edition “Encyclopedia of the Russian Academy” for the 25th anniversary of RAE, creation and development of RAE and IAE departments. Mentioning the merits in the field of integration of the Russian and International engineering community and significant contribution to the development of theory and practice of engineering, Leonid Ivanov was awarded Golden Mark of the Russian Academy of Engineering and Honourable Golden Mark of the International Academy of Engineering. In 2015, he was awarded the Great Russian Poet Lermontov’s Prize for a significant personal contribution to strengthening of the Russian statehood and development of journalism.

On February 12, 2016 the delegates of the RAE Congress elected L. Ivanov as principal academic secretary of the RAE (RAE consists of more than 70 departments: subdivisions, regional departments and scientific centers). At the General meeting of the International Academy of Engineering on April 22, 2016 Leonid Ivanov was elected as principal academic secretary of the IAE Presidents’ Council (IAE incorporates national academies, departments and representations from 14 countries).

L. Ivanov actively participates in the development of the International and Russian Academies of Engineering. With his direct involvement there have been created new IAE and RAE departments: Novosibirsk, Tambov, Chelyabinsk Departments of the Russian Academy of Engineering, IAE branch in the Republic of Peru, etc. Currently, he is working on new representations (departments) of the International Academy of Engineering, promoting international cooperation in the field of science and technology, integration of scientists and engineers into the global scientific community.

Leonid Ivanov took an active part as an Honorary Chair at the International Conference on Industrial Informatics – Computing Technology, Intelligent Technology, Industrial Information Integration ICIICII (Wuhan, China) in 2016 and 2017; International Conference on Innovative Design and Manufacturing ICIDM (Wuhan, China) in 2018. He received international awards for his outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology.

Leonid Ivanov takes an active part in the development of international scientific and technical cooperation, the integration of scientists and engineers from different countries into the world scientific community. For his outstanding contribution to the development of engineering, active participation in publishing, special achievements in the development of interstate scientific and technical relations, Ivanov L. was awarded the Gold medal of the Engineering Academy of the Kyrgyz Republic “Engineering Glory”, the Gold medal “Engineering Valor” of the Azerbaijan engineering Academy. Leonid Ivanov was awarded the title of “Guest Professor of Wuhan University of Technology” (China), “Honorary Professor of Shantou University” (China), “Honorary (foreign) academician of the Engineering Academy of the Republic of Tajikistan”, “Honorary academician of the Engineering Academy of the Kyrgyz Republic”,”Honorary Professor of Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Digital Signal and Image Processing” (China), “Honorary member of the Engineering Academy of Armenia”.
